Medi-Share is one of the largest and oldest healthshare organizations and its members tend to give it positive reviews. It also includes a plan for those 65 and older.
Medical bills for diagnosis or treatment of a pre-existing medical condition, defined as signs/symptoms, testing, diagnosis, treatment, OR medication for a condition within 36 months prior to membership (based on medical records), will ONLY be eligible for sharing as follows:
Medi-Share does not cover routine and preventive care. However, some qualifying program levels offer eligible annual physicals and well-child care up until the age of six.
The members must join Medi-Share before becoming pregnant and they must indicate that they are married on their application, even if joining as an individual. They need to have faithfully shared from the month of conception through the month of delivery as well. Maternity sharing is limited to $125,000 per pregnancy event.
Prescription drugs related to the treatment of an eligible medical condition must be paid out of pocket and then submitted on a reimbursement form. Prescriptions can be eligible for up to six months of treatment for each medical-specific condition over the member’s lifetime. Eligible prescription expenses are applied toward your annual household portion once they are sent in. If your annual household portion has been met, those expenses will then be shareable. Medi-Share’s plan for seniors does not include prescription sharing.
Medical-Share is over 30 years old, making it one of the oldest healthcare sharing entities. It also boasts over 400,000 members, making it one of the largest, if not the largest, healthcare sharing programs. They are a Christian organization which does ask its members to adhere to a statement of faith and to maintain certain lifestyle requirements. They have two options for individuals and families—Medi-Share Complete and Medi-Share Value. They also have programs for employers, seniors, and missionaries. There is no per-incident max-sharing cap and there is no lifetime maximum sharing amount for eligible expenses. Medical-Share has a $50 application fee and a one-time membership fee when you start of $120. Finally, plans can start sharing in the first month up to $50,000 for new enrollees and their is no first-month cap for adult children moving from their parent’s membership to their own membership.
